The 17th Annual Meeting of the Geothermal Research Cluster – GEORG took place on May 17, 2025, marking a transition in leadership. After years of dedicated service, Prof. Sigurður Magnús Garðarsson stepped down as Chair of the Board, passing the role to Hjalti Páll Ingólfsson, former CEO of GEORG.
GEORG continues to play a vital role in the advancement of geothermal energy through:
🔹 Continued leadership in EU-funded projects like COMPASS and EPOS-ON,
🔹 Strategic role in shaping policy through GEOTHERM FORA, ETIP-Geothermal, and TRI4 Heating & Cooling,
🔹 The GEOTHERMICA Initiative grew as a vital platform for international public authorities’ collaboration,
🔹 Successful bilateral projects: Geothermal Bridge (Iceland–Romania) & GeoSynergy (Iceland–Poland).
Krafla Magma Testbed evolved into an independent project — a proud milestone in GEORG’s innovation journey.
As we move into 2025, GEORG will focus on aligning with industry needs and strengthening partnerships across the geothermal ecosystem to meet new energy demands and technological shifts.
A heartfelt thank you to Sigurður Garðarsson for his leadership as Chairman of the Board for all these years! Grateful to our team, board, and all partners for driving forward sustainable geothermal solutions
