GEORG is leading the GEOTHERMICA Project Office supporting the coordinator and consortium management team in implementing the co-fund calls, assisting with additional activities, ensuring optimal, flexible, and smooth operations of all activities.
GEOTHERMICA’s Call 1 projects crossed their 30 months results by the end of 2020 and requested the extension to the duration due to delays caused by the pandemic. Results of the work will be soon communicated to the public in 2021. However, in 2020 Call 2 executed and chose cofunded projects to begin their adventure by the end of 2020. Having conducted Call 1 with the EC’s financial support, GEOTHERMICA’s partners launched a second call with new partners USA and Norway, respectively, to ensure that the research and innovation space dedicated to geothermal energy is plentiful and attracts excellent talent.
In parallel, the Project Office organised effectively in 2020 joint meetings to prepare a joint call with a new network, JPP Smart Energy Systems, to create a collaborative effort, “Acceleration the Heating and Cooling transition”. The call was evaluated and prepared from scratch, where GEORG, under the wings of OS, prepared and ran the Call communication, following up on monitoring and planning. In 2020 there was done extensive work on Clean Energy Transition Partnership” where GEOTHERMICA has its fixed place in the period: 2022-2027
Additionally, the team was engaged in Clean Energy Transition CETP collaborative events on energy innovation. Both of those endeavours aimed to broaden the work scope and fit into the recent clean energy transitions. GEOTHERMICA ambitions in the upcoming next five years are to finalise cooperative activities: Call 1, Call 2, Aditional Aditional Activities consisted of Joint Call with JPP SES, Clean Energy Transition Partnership, Working Group on Induced seismicity and Working Group on Geothermal Heat in urban areas (GeoCities/GeoFood).
