GEORG Geothermal Cluster led a delegation of experts from Iceland to participate in a workshop in Bucharest, Romania on the 15-17th of October 2024. This was the second workshop of the EEA and Norway Grants funded project GeoThermal Bridge Initiative. The Romanian participants in the project introduced the geothermal energy sector in Romania, identifying opportunities and challenges that the project could potentially address. The group also visited geothermal installations in Balotesti and Otopeni.
Discussions focused on identifying and developing new collaborations and projects:
- Legal & regulatory framework on geothermal energy.
- Public engagement & social license to operate.
- Capacity building programs.
- Exploration techniques & resource mapping.
- Utilizing geothermal energy in food production.
- District heating systems using geothermal energy.
- Research collaboration & exchange programs.
The GeoThermal Bridge Initiative is supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants Romania 2014-2021, in the frame of the Energy Programme Romania.
