Following the Annual Meeting of Orkusklasinn, the GEORG Geothermal Research Cluster, the Iceland Renewable Energy Cluster, and Íslensk NýOrka have united under a single platform: ORKIS Energy Cluster Iceland – Orka Íslands (www.orkis.is). Together, these three organisations bring complementary expertise in geothermal research and innovation, renewable energy cluster development, and energy transition in transport and alternative fuels, now operating under one name, one governance structure, and a shared purpose: to bridge research, industry, and government, turning Iceland’s energy advantage into knowledge, innovation, and exportable solutions with real local and international impact.
GEORG membership does not automatically transfer to ORKIS. Members are warmly invited to join ORKIS under the new entity’s membership rules. Further details will follow ahead of the GEORG Annual General Meeting.
All existing projects, Horizon Europe commitments, and partnerships continue as normal. Timelines, deliverables, and working relationships are not affected. For active funded projects requiring formal contract amendments, this work is already underway. All involved partners will be kept informed throughout.
GEORG remains a live legal entity during the transition, ensuring all ongoing obligations are fully covered. Staff will move to new ORKIS email addresses in due course; all current contacts remain valid in the meantime. Any new collaboration from this point will be set up under the ORKIS name and identity. GEORG’s role within national and international frameworks, including active projects and obligations to co-beneficiaries, is being transferred to ORKIS in an orderly manner.
From this point forward, our work will increasingly appear under the ORKIS name, in correspondence, publications, reports, and project communications. This reflects the broader platform we are now part of, not a change in the substance of what we do or who we are.
More information will be posted via www.orkis.is
