Waste 2 Value is a joint effort towards added value, economical solutions and based on the research projects that focused on downstream waste streams. These include waste streams like warm water for aquaponics, or utilization of gases, such as CO2 for energy production. It has explored possibilities and opportunities aiming to reduce environmental impact and to convert Waste 2 Value.
- Methane gas production from geothermal gases;
- Value Creation in Icelandic Geothermal Processes: Extraction of minerals and metals;
- Utilization of geothermal heat in aquaponics.
The research work divided into three separate, but interconnected parts; Exploration, Modelling, and Utilization.
GEORG Geothermal Research Cluster initiated the Waste 2 Value project and supported it with its funding and expertise. GEORG ensured the overall project proceeding within the timeframe and given budget and achieving the objectives. The collaboration was successful and resulted in bridging the energy companies, academics and business sectors to harness a good resource.
